Pimp your Faith Idee #4:

Hier also unsere kleine Wahrnehmungs-Übung: Erbsen zählen.

Pimp your Faith idea #4:

Become a nit-picker

Advertising psychologists found out that we are fixed. Most of the time on negative things. On average we spread the word about good things to 3 people. We share bad things with 9 people.
Example: 3 people knows about the delicious strawberry sherbet from ice cream parlor XYZ. 9 people avoid the bad hairdresser at the hairdresser's shop ABC.

What an unbalance. Not to mention the consequences.

Compared to all the good news - bad mood, silly thoughts, bad rumors, prejudices and other rubbish are constantly spreading. Naff!

Should we accept this without protest?

Most of the time we accept it... :(

But we shouldn't do! The Bible says "Your whole life should be a thank to God." And if the bible says so, there is a reason for thanking.

But we forget too often to fast the good things that are happening around us.

So here I have a practical help for you. Don't worry, you won't here sentences like "Think positive" or "Everything will be good". That's not working! Bad things won't become better only because you will redefine it into "good" or ignoring it with the ostrich method. Our little practical help will help you to see the good things in your everyday life. The problem is that we loose sight of the good things too fast. That's because we talk 3 times more about the bad things than about the good things. But the good things are still there.

Here is our little perception excercise: counting the peas.

Put 20 peas in your trouser pocket, shirt pocket, jacket pocket or in another pocket or in a small bowl. Put them somewhere where spend most of the time or what you carry with you most of the time. The important thing is that they are well palpable or visible so that you won't loose them.

Whenever something good happens during your day take a pea and put them into another pocket, box or bowl. From one pocket to another, from one corner to another... When something good happens again, take the next pea. And the next. And the next...

For days it rained, finally today the sun is shining. - one pea.
On the way to Berlin. In fact, the train is on time today. - one pea.
Your favorite soccer team wins. - one pea.
Todays Bible verse fits to your situation. - one pea.
etc...

You will be amazed how many peas will leave one pocket to go to the other pocket. 20 pieces may not be enough. And there will be situations you won't have realized without the peas.
